"He who passively accepts evil
is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.
He who accepts evil without protesting against it
is really cooperating with it."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
It's not your son. Why do you care? What does it matter as long as he is healthy, happy, and loved? Circumcision is a personal decision... a parent's choice. It is done in his best interest. Why are some people so nosey about other people's children?
Unlike doctors who encourage circumcision, Intactivists have nothing to gain financially. Intactivists don't get to charge several hundred dollars for a procedure that takes 15 minutes, don't get to sell babies' foreskins for pharmaceutical use (More about lotions with foreskin here), and don't get to charge even more for repairing botched circumcisions. So why are they so passionate about getting their beliefs out?
The answer is simple. They can't stand to see babies suffering needlessly, they can't tolerate the lies that are constantly told about the so called "benefits" of circumcision, they hate hearing stories of grown men who were circumcised as babies and feel mutilated or sexually abused, they want the suffering to STOP. They know that there is little to be done to help those who are already cut, but they hope for a better future where all children, male and female, will be safe from unnecessary genital surgeries. A day when parents say "welcome to the world, my son" with love, hugs, and kisses, rather than strapping him to a board and taking a blade to his most sensitive organ. They are waiting for the day when more people are educated to the truths of this barbaric practice, and are optimistic that statistics show that that time is slowly but surely approaching.
So when you are trying to decide whether or not to circumcise your son, think about the the Intactivists who never want to see your sweet baby suffer a moment's pain, and the doctors who want your money and your son's foreskin - who would you rather trust?
